Happy Earth Day! If you travel around the world, you will find more mountains, waterfalls, trails, and historical sites then you can imagine. Let’s preserve our planet and “celebrate” Earth Day every day! Taking off on a jet plane is always exciting, but it is harmful to the climate. So as travellers, what can we do to reduce our carbon foot print? Eat wisely. Choose foods that are local, organic, and in season. In plenty of foreign countries this is the way the native people eat; follow their example. Take care of your garbage. Find out if recycling is available and use it. If locals throw their garbage on the street, it doesn’t mean you should too. Still respect the earth. Take public transportation, bike, or walk. It saves us money when on the road and is better for the environment (compared to taking a taxi or renting a car). Pick Green Accommodation. Support local businesses that make an effort to be eco-friendly. Treat the planet as if you were at home. Don’t waste water and turn off electronics or lights when they are not in use. Volunteer. If there is a local clean-up, why not pitch in? Put down your exotic cocktail and help out the local community.
